On May 26, 2004, Luis
Ortiz contacted us to report the following:
"I'm writing you from Merida, Yucatan. Mexico, just to let you know
that 10-6 sleeper "La Coruña" (Ex CZ 1134 "Silver
Glacier")
fortunately did not go to the scrapper and it sits here in Merida at
the "Museo
de los Ferrocarriles de Yucatan" (Yucatan Railway Museum), Although
the car is in very bad shape (barely missed the scrap), there are plans
to restore it."
By request, a few days later, he sent the following pictures and information:
"As
you can see in the photos the car lacks the vestibules and end doors
and some of the hardware for the vestibules. The interior lacks much
of the electric components including the control panel but all the roomettes
and bedrooms are in place, although not in the best shape. Also, as you
can see in the photos, only one window has its glass in place. The other
ones are covered with boards.
Fortunately most of the things that are missing (including all the
doors of the car) rest in a warehouse. The museum manager (Mr. Rafael
Lizarraga) collected most of these things from the scrap yard from this
and other similar cars that unfortunately didn't make it."
Tremendous thanks to Luis for this great information!
